Sraddha-kutir – Recognizing Devotional Homes as Abodes of Faith
Honoring Every Home as a Temple of Krsna
The Sraddha-kutir (Bhakti Home) initiative is a global ISKCON effort to spiritually empower and recognize the homes of practicing devotees as mini temples—places of worship, sadhana, and care. Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s vision of “every home a temple,” this program honors and supports families that maintain Krsna consciousness in their daily lives.
Objectives:
- To spiritually support devotee households
- To publicly recognize families maintaining Krsna-centered homes
- To promote deeper community connection and mutual care
- To cultivate future programs focused on family well-being, education, and devotional growth
Minimum Standards for Recognition:
- Vegetarian lifestyle maintained in the home
- At least one member chants a fixed number of Hare Krsna maha-mantra rounds daily
- All members are favorable to the practice of Krsna consciousness
Program Highlights:
- Registration and listing of Bhakti Homes (Sraddha-kutirs)
- Public recognition during temple programs with certificates, stickers, and plaques
- Regular home visits by volunteers to offer prasadam, do kirtan, offer encouragement and pastoral care
- Map-based visual display at temples showing all Bhakti Homes in the area
- Ongoing support through family workshops, parenting seminars, marital counseling, and youth engagement
